"Stored images of vehicles will not be used by police to approach witnesses of certain incidents. Minister Ivo Opstelten (Security and Justice) said that on Wednesday. He wants recordings of cars to be able to be kept for four weeks from now on for possible use in solving crimes.

The plan can count on a majority in the Lower House, but also raises many questions about privacy. Opstelten promised to liaise with organisations in this field, such as Privacy First, on the issue. The minister says that everything will be strictly and tightly regulated and that privacy risks will be limited as much as possible."
