In a general consultation on 21 January last on the 'Safety Starts with Prevention' project, we indicated that we have no objection to the desire of entrepreneurs to use their cameras to capture part of the public space in the immediate vicinity of the company. We also promised to look into the possibilities for this.
The processing of images obtained with private camera surveillance falls under the Personal Data Protection Act (Wbp). Based on the Wbp and the Exemption Decree to the Wbp, entrepreneurs are allowed to protect their property and staff with cameras, subject to (inter)national privacy laws.
