"(...) The Privacy First foundation recently rightly argued European jurisprudence (ECHR 'Van der Velden') nips a privacy violation in the bud, to prevent creeping up towards more general (investigative) goals.

Not only is storage disproportionate, there are alternatives that better respect civil rights. This is evidenced by the fact that a large number of European countries, including Germany, are abandoning database storage and opting for chip storage to achieve the same goals.

The cabinet and the House of Representatives need not waste any more time with a months-long national reorientation. Immediately stop the illegal storage of biometric data."
