NS tests OV-chipcard as debit card
By Jeroen van der Ham
The NS is currently testing the OV-chipkaart as a debit card at Amersfoort station. For some employees of TLS (the company behind the OV-chipkaart), it is now possible to buy things there at shops and restaurants at the station. The trial runs until April.
NS claims that in the future it will be easier for travellers to pay in this way. However, it is unclear whether this will pass muster: the Nederlandsche Bank previously ruled that the card does not meet the requirements for a means of payment.
