Police want to expand camera surveillance on highway

If it is up to the IJsselland regional police, the license plates of all vehicles on motorways near Groningen, Nijkerk and Deventer will also be registered next year. Currently, the police already scan all number plates on the A28 and A50 motorways near Zwolle. A controversial system, as a legal framework is lacking. The license plates collected by police through the A28 are kept for seven days and compared with known license plates of suspects' cars.
